Most of you may not be aware that one of our Brothers, one of my pledge Brothers, has successfully completed a detox facility in Arlington, VA for alcoholism. Upon leaving there he checked himself into a rehab center in Lima, PA where he stayed for 23 days. As of today, 5/07/07, Eric has been sober for 65 days. Right now Eric is going to Intensive Outpatient treatment for 3 hours a day, he meets with a therapist for 1 hour everyday, not to mention his daily AA meeting, sometimes twice a day for those.
Basically, Eric has fallen upon a pretty rough time in his life and we would like to show him that people are there for him and that we believe in him. He lost his job, hes selling his condo, and for the foreseeable future he will be living with his sister and brother-in-law in Folsom, PA. Upon speaking with Eric, his plans right now are to take everything day to day, hes not looking to get back into corporate America, not right away at least. He thinks he will try to get a job working outside, maybe landscaping, and try to learn to like himself and life again.
Our goal is simple, support Eric. Several of us got together to try and figure out the best way to help him. We felt that our goal to give Eric both financial and moral support would best be accomplished by asking people to donate money to a fund for him. As you can guess, his bills are piling up, his family is helping, but we think we can help a little as well. We are trying to raise $2000 and we ask that all donations be submitted by May 25th. When everyone has given what they can, any amount will help, we will surprise him with the donation and a card with a list of donors. A few people have already requested to be there when we give it to him, so if you are interested then please let me know and I will email you the details. For men of Theta Chi, there is probably no better reason to donate than what we all know from our Creed and the Oaths we took during our initiation into Theta Chi...(θηρόποσα Χείρ) each of us should extend a Helping Hand to those who need it.
We have come up with two options to send money; the first is to donate via paypal. This link will bring you directly to our Chapter website that will charge you nothing to donate via debit or credit card. I created a forum on the site for anyone to be able to discuss this endeavor, but you must register to be able to post. If you would rather send a check, please make it payable to Robert Bowen and send it to:
Eric Tharp Foundation 18 Waterford Lane Downingtown, Pa 19335
Remember, everything helps, so lets show Eric how much we want him to succeed!
